the impossible

The impossible sometimes happens... and so this entry was born.

Anyway after the numerous threats I have received (I daresay some were not very pleasant), I decided, hey, this shit ain't that hard. Just a bloody post they want, a bloody post they will have. Ok maybe not literally.

Anyway, as I look thru the last few posts, I realised I left on a rather macabre, somewhat even suicidal note. Scary shit, I can't even recall why I was in such a pathetic state. I guess time really does heal. To be honest, now when I look back, I don't see why I should have been in such a collapsed state.

Maybe its cuz I was hoping for certain things to happen after graduation. But none of it really did take off. For e.g. I was supposed to go backpacking ard South East Asia with my homie David, but that din work out/

The I was supposed to be in Adelaide in January/February. Again, that din work out either. And if thats not bad enuff, I din hear anything about my job till April, which meant, I spent close to 5 months (thats almost half a yr mind you!) doing absolutely NOTHING! yes NOTHING! Well of cuz if you consider eating, sleeping and putting on 7kgs in that time, then yeah maybe I did do something.

But well, as usual I am exaggerating. I did haf some interesting times. There was the WEEK. Somewhere mid Feb I think. When I came back to spore and met up with my homie Haran. That was one of the more memorable days, almost everyday there was sth gg on. Plus his bro from Adelaide, Maha also came down, and that was double the fun. There was Cafe del Mar, the Last King of Scotland, then the tummy bursting episode at the Indian restaurant in Clarke Quay with Chaitra. What else... oh yeah, met Tush, and the gang at Fish and Co in Suntec, Daymmm... i cant remember wat else, seems like a lot of shit we did. On the msian front, there were a few parties here and there, plus a family outing yo port dickson which was loads fun. So it wasnt all dat bad.

Fast forward to April. TADA!!.... finally there's some news abt my job and here I am. Back in good ol' spore. Every time i got an invite to do sth, be it weekday or weekend, I immediately answered yes, without thinking much. As my frens would tell you, that is quite an uncommon. I usually give vague answers, and most of the time end up not turning up, sometimes to save money, but mostly, because I was literally staying at the World's End.

So yeah, and once I started answering positively, it was a snowball effect. More ppl started inviting me. Not that I'm trying to boast abt my social life, but I'm just illustrating the point that once u r seen out more, ppl tend to wanna invite you, cuz they know, unless u r really busy, u will actually try to come. (HINT: NIRON, I hope you bloody hell read this!!)

So in a nutshell the following happened :

1) I got drunk on the nite of the Bioscience Dinner and Dance (Read: prom nite for graduating students)
2) I had a small (ok not that small in the end), bday gathering, thx guys!! That was really memorable.

So enough words, enough bullshit, here are the pics, witness and enjoy. And do forgive the hiatus. I was just lazy. Period (as usual the chronological ordering is anything but ordered, just try to enjoy la)

Yvonne! One of the sweetest girls I had the pleasure of knowing.
Mum, dad.... u din see this picture

Before you see Jan's post on this, I thought I'd defend myself by putting it up first. I was sabo-ed on stage and was make up was forced onto me. It didn't help that I wasnt sober enough to resist, nor not to act the part.
we showed the laydees a thing or 2 abt fashion sense.
DN technologies yet again

The spanish and the malaysian.
yi liang and yours truly

Fanily outing at port dickson.
Treasure hunt organized by the laydees. Tough shit seriously.
Ok I dunno how this one sneaked in here. This was taken on the last day of my paper. And I hadn't slept in 48 hours, thanks to a structural biology and virology paper back to back. Never have i pushed myself to such limits. I was actually having throbbing headaches at this point in time. Reason why I couldnt go to MOS wit u guys, despite being the one who ORGANIZED it!
An outing somewhere in Feb. Was during the WEEK i tink. And i seem to be wearing this t-shirt one too many times. Time to diversify wardrobe inventory.
The fart was so nasty, even the photo taker couldnt steady herself for the shot
Visiting homies in NTU, poor dudes, struggling thru FYP when i was breathing the sweet air of freedom. Only Vivienne maintained that trademark smile of hers, despite all the hardships of FYP. Respek
Everyone, trying their utmost best to pull in their pot bellies (except for chaitra of cuz). Somehow we managed, until the flash went off at least.

ok i'll blog

how do u guys do it? Being able to consistently and passionately keep at it. I'm talking abt blogging of course. I keep saying I'll be a regular blogger and all, but as u prob know the drill by now, that only goes on for the next couple of posts, followed by a long hiatus. Maybe I was right all along, abt not wanting to blog in the first place. Firstly, the fact that this blog can be viewed by anyone and everyone alr alters the way I'll write here. I started to write in a manner that could cater to everyone. But as I have come to realise, there are just too much insider stuff in this blog, that made others reading go " Huh? What the hell you talking abt?"

When it was not insider stuff, it was just boring, shitty, narcissistic updates, which I myself ponder at times how I started that off. Of course, now there is this, blog-by-invite only or the online diary concept, where you sieve your blog readership. I might just do that sometime, I dunno. Nth beats a personal diary really, where u can just freely bitch abt anything/anyone, without having to worry abt being sued or sth. I think I'll just stick to that then.

Why do we blog? Really?

My answer: To have a witness to our lives. We don't want our interesting experiences to go unnoticed. We wish to share sth with the world.

Well until the day I become a professional blogger, like my homie Emmanuel, where the need to communicate ideas is a global one, where readership hits close to newspapaer status, and where large scale discussion and sharing of ideas can only be achieved via cyberspace, I'll stay outta this, thank you.

I'm prob repeating myself, but what this blog will be from now on is a space to post some pics wit some captions (that'll do the talking hopefully), with occasional interesting incidents that I feel you mite like to hear (may be months or years for one to happen). You r not gonna see a post like " Tdy was cool. Went to sch. Had lecture. Met George. Had lunch, Saw a hot babe, no guts to chat her up. Went home. Did chores. Slept" Why the hell do ppl even bother to update such petty stuff, I dunno. Its not even fit for an MSN conversation.

I rather just meet ppl and talk to them personally abt my life, rather than relying on digital tech to communicate. Whatever happened to verbal communication? Everything is now SMS, or MSN, or email. Don't u agree, that with such communication methods, our verbal communicative abilities have declined rather drastically. When we do actually hang out, ppl just find it hard to talk face to face anymore. Simply cuz we are more comfortable looking at a hp screen or LCD monitor to talk, rather than looking at a human being's face to communicate. Sometimes when i call come buddies up, they r like, dude I'm busy, i'll SMS u later. Fair enough, I can feel you. But what happened to plain old, i'll go back home and we'll talk over the fone? I really miss those days. Humans have just become a 2D screen where communication takes place. I mite as well just open an exercise book, and have an imaginary fren talk to me in writing.

To me then, this is the answer. Why u get such petty, shitty posts. I'm not targeting anyone in particular, so don't get me wrong. But if ppl actually took some time out, hung out more with frens and really got to know one another better, ppl mite actually have sth more substantial to blog abt. Anyone can be a gd pal to talk to, if we remove our prejudices, not be imposing and have a fair open mind. I thank God, that the 2 most impt years of my life, I had just that, and that we still can catch up from where we left off, even if have not met for ages. I thank God, I made the best friendships of my life in that 2 yrs, despite it talking a toll on my academic life. I thank God, that, no matter what shit I fall into, these guys will always be there to pull me out of it, and me, them. And most of all, I thank God that after that 2 yrs, I still met such like-minded ppl, altho under different circumstances.

Newayz, this post is for the man, who has tried all means to force and entry outta me (including banning the use of the Net at his crib when i come by, and also refusing to talk to me online). You know who you are! And the best part, this jabroni doesnt blog himself for the same reasons I mentioned ( we are Gemineans too). The irony...

langkawi 2

Gosh, I rem whining so much abt leading a sedentary, uneventful lifestyle since the beginning of the year. I guess all my whining paid off, cuz the last couple of weeks have been anything but uneventful! Many things have been going on, some good stuff and some not so good stuff. Forget the not so good stuff tho. The gd stuff is that been going ard a lot, visiting old relatives, some of whom have not seen me since I left Singapore. Although I knew I had a super huge extended family, I never really knew many of them well enough. So no was the time for me to get to know some of them, reconnect, improve on my mother tongue. Most of my cousins, who were last seen schooling before i left for Spore, are now all full time working adults.

Now in reminiscence, the langkawi trip seemed to take place ages ago, and the one drawback abt updating late, as you all prob know only too well, is the lapse of memory.

But thank God for digital cameras! The ability to snap and delete at will virtually confers the ability for one to document every detail of your life. Though I wouldnt say I captured every detail, I believe I did capture enough for the pics themselves to paint a story. So let the pictures do the talking! (Disclaimer: Pics are not necessarily in chronological order, go thru at own risk)

Dad and his homie
Sis and me in Crocodile Park.
Bird eye's view from the cable car.
This dude, obviously overslept, look there's trees growing all over his face
I like this shot
One of the islands while Island Hopping.
Dead jellyfish lying on the seashore. R.I.P dawg
The catfish pond. When you dip your feet in, the catfishes come around and brush your leg with their whiskers, its tickly but nice. Some say this action has medicinal properties.
Paddling in Tasik Dayang Bunting (Pregnant Maiden Lake). According to legend, those who have fertility probs wanting to conceive, will conceive after drinking from this lake. I took a couple of gulps too, maybe thats why my belly saw a large surge in size.
Taking pics beside the big arse eagle thats the landmark of langkawi
On the jetty before island hopping. Told you abt the chronological inconsistency!

My new mansion, just completed in Langkawi. Feel free to drop in for a visit.

After Langkawi, we made a short trip to the Himalayas.
Steve Erwin's assasin was spotted in Langkawi. Needless to say, he was sentenced to life imprisonment.
The penguin with yellow eyebrows. Forgot what's the actual name tho.

Yellow fowl hiding behind some leaves. Not everyday you see a yellow fowl!

langkawi

Back from the land of booze and cigars, a.k.a Langkawi. Finally completed the hattrick, 3rd time there. Nth much has changed tho, maybe except for more SHOPPING SPOTS and DUTY FREE SHOPS! Finally got the cigar I was looking for too. Vasco Da Gama Port Wine Cigar. Yeah baby yeah!

Only one freaking shop had it, hard to come by good stuff man. There were also other varieties la, like the Havana, but dats just way too expensive man, and I'll prob die from just a puff. The Wine cigar (Corona) at least will give u best of both worlds, tobacco and liquor. Respecto!!

My baby, still in wraps

Waiting for that special occasion.

That aside, managed to get a South African Pinotage too. Never tried it before but read and heard a lot about it, so thought of giving it a shot. Anyone into Pinotage also? Daymm... now I wish I joined the Wine Appreciation Club man. Discovery Channel Travel and Living is my new best friend. I used to think its just a channel for the wannabe rich-and-famous. But really, they got a lot of interesting programs and ideas. A real motivator this!

More details to come soon...

emmanuel

I warned you earlier about the chronological disorder. This is one such post

Emmanuel, another la sallian homie, dropped by a couple of weeks back. He is easily one of the few ppl i keep in touch with... on a regular basis. The rest of em, i hear a couple of sentences every 3 yrs or so, but this dude, goes the extra mile to keep in touch.

Some background on the dude. He's a big gun in the port, rose up the ranks very fast due to his diligence and ability. Even some postdocs i know earn less than this guy. And despite his impressive career development, he drives around a Kancil, which occasionally makes his clients disbelieve his position in his company (sorry dude, this is an incentive for u to get that Honda asap!)

Neway, we had a pretty good lunch at our usual KA vegetarian, the most popular veg joint down here. Its a pity i din bring my camera along.

Da dude let me in on some politics of the corporate world. All the things i learnt in my Human Resources module last semester, this guy was telling me in real life. I used to think it was all just theoretical, but I was surprised how much of these policies are put into practice. Awesome really!

Apart from that got some more life lessons from da dude. Its an education u don't get froma 4 yr college education, trust me! I used to think Malaysian young adults and their Singaporean counterparts are not much different, but boy was I wrong. They way these guys think are so totally different. For an example, all these guys I talk to, they are speaking about stocks, unit trusts, and how to make their first million. And they are actually not far from achieving it! It appears my singaporean friends are somewhat more conservative where risks are concerned. The way I see it though, the best time to take risks is now.

Indeed, adversity destroys complacency and advocates survival of the fittest. That Darwin guy was right after all...

Needless to say after all dat long conversation, we called for the bill, and before I could open my wallet, emmanuel's flashing out a RM100 bill and refused to accept my share.

"I need loose change la bro, got a date with my gal later"

Ahhh... Malaysia Boleh indeed

if you die tomorrow...

i dunno, there's always so many things i wanna blog about, but due to inertia + inherent laziness + so many things happening all of a sudden, the right stuff doesn't seem to come out at the right time. so some of these blog entries are gonna come out chronologically disordered so bear with me. I must start by saying I had the most interesting month compared to the last two years put together. Everything that has happened, happened suddenly. I never imagined in my wildest dreams, I'd have such a good time ahead.

Anyway tdy, an old fren of mine whom i haven't met in 5 or 6 yrs suddenly just popped by. Dr.Sentil, the future pediatric surgeon. I'm surprised he remembered my home address after all these years. And dat coupled with the fact that he stays in KL now. Respek

Twas gd meeting up with my old homie from the La Salle days. Reminded me of the silly things we used to do ( and some which we still do), the pranks we played, and... ok better stop here... for security purposes

The dude hasn't changed much, wearing a quiksilver cap, he came with his new Sentra (which he bought himself thru his part time earnings in Ireland plus some investment banking). The dude is a genius, in the sense that he really made good use of his time in Ireland. He knew how to make his money grow, he traveled much of the known world (he plans for Antartica at a later date), he knows Rome and Paris better than KL and he did well in his studies. Boy, when he asked me about my life, as you prob alr guessed, he was trying his best to stifle yawns while attempting to look interested at my monotonous reply.

However, depsite all these mean feats, one thing he said struck me.... real HARD.

"If I die tomorrow, I'll die a happy man, cuz I haf done the things I wanted to do. Of cuz i would like to graduate but hey... I'm one satisfied man"

I glanced back at him, and knew I couldn't reverberate the same sentiment. Instead I gave him a wry smile and changed the topic

" So... any news from Zaid and co..?"

And so the topic was forgotten... or so I thought....

But then again, the topic came up, and I realized I couldnt lie... not to him... so it came out. And what he said made me think long after he left (he had a flight to Egypt that nite and he hadn't packed!)

LUX LUCEAT VOBIS

Thanks bro. You kept it real...
